- 1 teaspoon dry yeast

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 1 egg

- 1/4 cup melted butter

- Oil for frying

3. Knead the dough: Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can use an electric mixer if available.

4. Proof the dough: Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about an hour until it doubles in size.

5.   Shape the donuts:  After proofing, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut out the donuts, then use a smaller cutter to cut out the center holes.

6. Fry the donuts: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the donuts in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

7. Decorate: After frying, you can coat the donuts with powdered sugar or dip them in melted chocolate, or add cream toppings as desired.

 History of Donuts

The first recorded mention of donuts in America dates back to the 19th century. It is believed that the Dutch settlers who arrived in New York (formerly known as New Amsterdam) in the 17th century brought with them a type of fried pastry known as "olykoeks," or oil cakes. The modern donut shape, with a hole in the center, is attributed to an American sailor named Hanson Gregory, who is said to have made this innovation around 1847 to improve the frying process.

Since then, donuts have become a staple of American culture and have spread worldwide, with various flavors and styles gaining popularity globally.
