   Ingredients

- 1 cup softened butter

- 1 cup brown sugar

- 1/2 cup white sugar

- 2 eggs

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 2 1/4 cups flour

- 1 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth and creamy. Then, add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.

3. Mix the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until fully combined.

4. Add the chocolate chips:  Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

5.  Bake:   Scoop small balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.

6.   Cool:   Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

 History of Cookies

Cookies, as we know them today, were first created in America in the 1930s. The famous "Chocolate Chip Cookie" was accidentally invented in 1938 by Ruth Wakefield, who ran the Toll House Inn. She was attempting to make chocolate cookies but found that the chocolate chunks didn’t melt entirely into the dough, creating the iconic chocolate chip cookie.

Since then, chocolate chip cookies have become one of the most beloved desserts in the U.S. and around the world.
