- Sushi Recipe
-Ingredients:
- 2 cups Japanese rice (sushi rice)
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Nori sheets (seaweed)
- Raw fish slices (such as salmon or tuna)
- Cucumber, cut into long slices
- Avocado, cut into slices
- Soy sauce
- Wasabi (optional)
- Pickled ginger (optional)
-Preparation:
1. Prepare the Rice:
- Rinse the Japanese rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Place the rinsed rice in a pot with water and let it soak for 30 minutes.
- After soaking, bring the rice to a boil over medium heat, then lower the heat and cook covered for 15 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and leave the rice covered for another 10 minutes.
2. Prepare the Vinegar Mixture:
- In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar with sugar and salt until fully dissolved.
3. Mix the Rice:
- Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and gradually pour the vinegar mixture over the rice while gently folding it with a wooden spatula until well combined and slightly cooled.
4. Prepare the Sushi:
- Place a nori sheet on a sushi mat.
- Spread a layer of rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small margin at the edges.
- Place slices of fish, cucumber, and avocado in the center of the rice.
- Use the mat to roll the sushi tightly into a cylinder.
- Cut the roll into small slices using a sharp, wet knife.
5. Serving:
- Serve the sushi with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

Sushi has a history that dates back over a thousand years in Japan. Originally, it was a method of preserving fish by fermenting it with rice. Over time, it evolved into the dish we know today. Modern sushi began to develop during the Edo period (1603-1868 : in Japan. Hanaya Yohei is considered one of the pioneers of modern sushi (nigiri sushi), introducing it in the early 19th century.
