Preparation of Steak with Potatoes and Golden Gravy in the Oven
Ingredients
For the steak:
4 slices of steak (preferably beef or veal).
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil or olive oil.
Salt and black pepper to taste.
1 teaspoon of paprika.
½ teaspoon of garlic powder.
½ teaspoon of dried herbs (thyme or rosemary).
For the potatoes:
4 medium potatoes, cut into thick slices.
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Salt and pepper to taste.
½ teaspoon of paprika.
For the golden gravy:
1½ cups of beef or chicken broth.
2 tablespoons of butter.
2 tablespoons of flour.
1 teaspoon of soy sauce (optional for added flavor).
½ teaspoon of turmeric for the golden color.
Preparation Steps
1. Preparing the steak:
1. Season the steak slices with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and dried herbs.
2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sear the steak for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden.
3. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
2. Preparing the potatoes:
1. Toss the potato slices with oil, salt, pepper, and paprika.
2. Spread the potatoes evenly on a baking tray.
3. Preparing the golden gravy:
1. In the same skillet used for the steak, melt the butter over medium heat.
2. Add the flour and stir well until the mixture turns golden.
3. Gradually pour in the broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
4. Add soy sauce and turmeric, then let the mixture boil for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
4. Baking in the oven:
1. Place the steak slices on top of the potatoes in the tray and pour the golden gravy over them.
2. Cover the tray with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30–40 minutes, or until the steak is fully cooked and the potatoes are tender.
5. Serving:
Serve hot with bread or white rice, and garnish with chopped parsley.
Tips:
Add sliced onions and carrots with the potatoes for extra flavor.
Avoid overbaking the steak to keep it tender.
