Crispy Golden Cheese Kataifi Rolls Recipe
-Ingredients:
500g kataifi dough (available in stores)
250g feta cheese or mozzarella, or a mix of cheeses to taste
100g melted butter
1 beaten egg
A pinch of black pepper
A pinch of dried thyme (optional)
Oil for greasing the tray
-Preparation:
1. Prepare the filling:
In a bowl, mix the crumbled cheese with the beaten egg, black pepper, and dried thyme (if using). Stir until well combined.
2. Prepare the kataifi dough:
Gently separate the kataifi dough strands with your hands until they are loose and untangled. Cut the dough into medium-sized pieces to suit the size of the rolls.
3. Stuff and roll:
Place a small amount of the cheese mixture at the edge of a piece of kataifi dough, then roll it tightly into a cylinder. Make sure to wrap the dough evenly around the filling to prevent the cheese from leaking during baking.
4. Butter the rolls:
Once all the rolls are prepared, place them in a greased baking tray. Using a brush, generously coat each roll with melted butter on both sides to ensure a golden, crispy finish.
5. Baking:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Place the tray in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden and crispy.
6. Serving:
Serve the kataifi cheese rolls hot as a delicious appetizer or snack with tea. They can be paired with tomato sauce or yogurt as a dip.
