French Croissant Recipe – A Delicious Meal
-Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon instant yeast
1 1/4 cup warm milk
1 teaspoon salt
250 grams unsalted butter (cold and cut into slices)
1 egg (for brushing)
-Preparation Steps:
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt together. Add the yeast, then gradually pour in the warm milk while stirring until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
2. Prepare the Butter:
Place the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to flatten the butter into a rectangle about 1 cm thick. Chill the butter in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
3. Shape the Dough:
After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
Place the cold butter in the center of the dough, then fold the dough over the butter like folding a letter. Gently roll out the dough again, then fold it into thirds.
Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes to cool.
4. Repeat:
Repeat the process of rolling and folding the dough three times, chilling the dough for 30 minutes between each fold.
5. Shape the Croissants:
After the final fold, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 cm thick. Use a knife to cut the dough into triangles.
Start from the base of the triangle and roll the dough towards the tip to form the classic croissant shape.
6. Final Rise:
Place the shaped croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them and let them rise for another 1-2 hours until they double in size.
7. Bake:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
Brush the croissants with the beaten egg for a shiny golden finish.
Bake the croissants for 15-20 minutes until golden and puffed up.
Serving:
Let the croissants cool slightly, then serve warm with butter, jam, or chocolate. They pair perfectly with coffee or tea for a complete French-inspired meal.
Tip:
You can fill the croissants with chocolate or cheese for an extra flavor twist!
